The year as we know it is sadly coming to an end. It's time to reflect back and hold onto the memories that were made throughout the past year. After all, Dr. Seuss did say...
"Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory."
To sum up 2017 in one word, I would have to say 'different'. The reasoning behind that is because I went to so many different places and experienced so many different things that I had never experienced before. Of course there were several ups and downs, some moments I wish that I could erase from my memory, moments I wish that I could relive. However, I decided to talk about the highlights of my 2017 and how these moments will forever be memories in my heart and have helped me to grow as a person. Here's to 2018!
1. Saint-Martin Vacation

2017 began for me on a sunny beach in Saint-Martin. I was lucky enough to spend a week on this cute little island with amazing food, sights, and of course beaches. In this photo, my family and I took a small boat to another beach across from ours that almost seemed like a dream. The beach was very isolated and had hardly anyone on it. Yet, it was probably my favourite part about the trip because of its simplicity and peacefulness.

Soon after, we went snorkeling in an area where the water is so clear that you can see everything. The day that we went snorkeling wasn't the best day to go due to the fact that the waves were very rough. Therefore, we hardly saw anything and it made it very difficult to even look underwater. None the less, the experience was something I would never forget, and something I look forward to attempting again.

The resort that we stayed on was called Anse Marcel and it never failed to impress. Everything about that resort was beautiful. They had their own private beach, and were known for their amazing food.

This steak was the biggest steak I had ever seen in my life. Apparently this dish was for one person. I don't know about you, but I'm already full just looking at it. Of course, my dad was able to eat the whole thing no problem.

This photo was taken while driving on the mountain and I begged my dad to stop the car so that I could climb on this huge rock to take a picture of this incredible sight.

And lastly, this photo was taken while I was tanning next to a pool that had natural mountain water in it. This whole area was considered a tree house because everything was elevated. There was zip lining and different extreme sport courses.
2. Grade 11 Show

On May 18th, my grade 11 drama class and I performed Café Murder. A night of crime, comedy, and confusion. Alongside my very talented friends, I was lucky enough to be able to play the character of Chef Franc. Chef Franc had a very heavy french accent but made the best meals for all his crazy customers. What made this night extra special was the fact that all the proceeds went to the alzheimer's society. We spent many long weeks rehearsing and asking for donations, but it was all worth it in the end.

3. Italy Vacation
My vacation to Italy was a trip that I was waiting for since I was very young. I never went to Italy, and yet my mom lived there for many years before she came to Canada. My dad has many great stories and memories from Italy when he was a kid as well. I had family there that I had not yet met before but heard so much about until this past summer. When I went to Italy, I went with Centro Scuola which was a program where you get a credit for studying abroad in the town known as Serra San Bruno in Calabria. For three weeks, me and my best friends got to explore Italy and see places such as Rome, Tropea, the Amalfi Coast, and so much more.

Once the three weeks were over, my family met up with me at the airport. From that moment on, I was finally able to meet my family that I had never met before in a town called Cingoli in the region of Marche. On our way up the famous Italian 'boot', we saw places like Siena, Florence, and Pesaro & Urbino.

4. TIFF Film Festival
The Disaster Artist For those of you who don't know, TIFF is the Toronto International Film Festival. Every year, tons of celebrities and directors come to premiere their movies and interact with fans and the press. The film starring James Franco and his brother Dave Franco premiered this year on September 11th at the Ryerson University Theatre. Me and my friends were lucky enough to meet James, Dave, Alison Brie, and Tommy Wiseau! Oh, and can't forget Carlos Bustamante from YTV and ET Canada.

If you look closely you see me smiling like a weirdo in the top left hand corner...awkward.

Here is James holding my book that he signed before he took a selfie with one of my friends

Didn't get many good photos, but here is a candid of the beautiful Alison Brie

And of course, the legend himself, Mr. Tommy Wiseau!
5. Bah, Humbug!
I was very hesitant on auditioning for my school's yearly production, but I'm very happy that I did because I was able to perform as the part of Judith Marley alongside great people who I can now call my good friends.

There was a lot of sweat and tears put into production from everyone who happened to be apart of it. All those long saturday rehearsals and after school rehearsals were all worth it in the end. The show was a huge success, and I met and made friends with so many new amazing people along the way.
Overall, 2017 has been one crazy year for me. I am so lucky and thankful for these amazing opportunities and experiences and can't wait for what the future holds.
Happy New Year, and thanks for reading!
Love, Sara Marsetti
