7 Fashion Trends That Are Making a Comeback

Let's face it, trends are constantly coming in and out of style. People often look back at the times when those trends were actually considered "fashionable" and question why they ever thought that. But, many celebrities in the past year have proved us wrong with their own personal take on those old trends when they made it their own. Specifically, trends that were popular years ago, and then really stood out again in the past year by many of the celebrities that we all know and love. So with that being said, let's dive into some of those looks that may even be back in your closet eventually.

"Fashions fade, style is eternal."

-Yves Saint Laurent

1. The Plaid Skirt

This is a look that you either love or hate. Jennifer Aniston's character Rachel Green on the hit show Friends was always known for her great style in the '90s. What made plaid skirts so memorable was the fact that you could pair it with so many different things to really make your outfit stand out. Jennifer Aniston is wearing a white turtle neck to match her red, black and white skirt. As seen on the right, singer Madison Beer is wearing a dark green and white plaid skirt that she matched with a black bandeau, a black sweater, a black choker and black Dr. Martens for a cute, chic, punk night out.

2. Crop Tops

Crop tops are a perfect summer look. I especially like to see how they are worn with different pants and accessories. On the left, Tyra Banks is wearing a pair of jeans, a cute baseball cap, and a backpack to finish off this casual tomboy look. Whereas Hailey Baldwin on the right, is seen wearing more of a casual laid back look with a bit of a kick in those funky pants. Crop tops not only come with sleeves, but also as spaghetti straps, and sometimes even in the form of a sweater.

3. Chokers

This cute little accessory is the perfect accent and final touch to any outfit. For the most part, these past few years I've mainly seen people rock the velvet choker. But, the plastic chokers are still just as stylish. Chokers look especially good in tops that are more open at the front to give your chest more flare. Although Reese Witherspoon on the left is wearing what seems like 3 chokers, Janelle Monáe opted for just one thick black velvet choker. Both of them equally killed these looks with a small minor detail like a choker.

4. Colourful Sunglasses

Although this look hasn't exactly been my favourite, I can say that it is growing on me. Selena Gomez on the right demonstrates how much a pop of colour in an outfit that is neutral can really complete a look. Britney Spears on the other hand (on the left) shows us how to wear purple sunnies with an equally vibrant colour top and how to make that work too. Although they might not help protect your eyes when the sun is bright and beaming in them, but at least you'll look cute wearing them.

5. Overalls

A lot of people claim that overalls can't be a fashion statement and that anyone who wears them looks like a farmer, but I'd have to disagree! I think that overalls are super flattering and are easy to be worn multiple different ways. Plus, overalls have changed so much over the years and not only are found as long, but also can be found in a shorts form. These classic denim overalls are super easy to wear, and can be paired with so many different tops underneath. Shout Out to Queen Bey strutting in her ripped denim overalls and white tank top, as well as Janet Jackson in a black long sleeve shirt and baseball cap to finish it off.

6. Mom Jeans

The classic mom jean look was worn by everyone in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. It wasn't until recently that this jean look was brought back. Emily Ratajkowski on the right is seen wearing mom jeans and booties with a cute detailed belt to complete her simple outfit. The way that mom jeans look on everyone is what makes them so iconic and stylish. Same with Courtney Cox as her character from Friends Monica Geller on the left, she paired her mom jeans with a tank top and yet she still managed to look just as good in them then as she does now.

7. Juicy Couture Tracksuits

As a kid you either had or wanted these comfortable, colourful, velvet, juicy tracksuits! Everyone was wearing them, and recently, Kylie Jenner posted a photo of her showing off her new black juicy couture tracksuit. Kylie wore the one with the signature bedazzled 'juicy' on the butt. The real question is, are the juicy tracksuits from the early 2000s really coming back? Or are they staying in the 2000s when Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and Jennifer Lopez were wearing them?

Fashion is constantly growing and changing, but I think that these trends will for sure be kept in style. It's so easy to make an outfit your own with a little inspiration from the previous years and the celebrities who wore them. It's important to stand out because fashion is about expression. Which one of these trends will you be trying this year? Give one of these trends a shot in 2018, you won't regret it!
