Happy Birthday River Phoenix

Today, August 23rd, would've been the 47th birthday of an 80's heartthrob, actor, vegan, and activist, River Phoenix. River Phoenix has always been one of my all time favourite actors after I saw him in Stand By Me when I was younger. Although he passed before I was born, his legacy touched my life so greatly and I admire him very much. For those of you who don't know who River is, this post is dedicated to him and will teach you a little about him and his wonderful, but short life.
To start, here are some of my favourite roles River played...
Running On Empty (1988)

Anyways, River did star in other movies throughout his life but the ones listed I think were his best performances. In fact, River was even nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in Running On Empty. But, River wasn't just interested in acting. River was also invested in his music and was actually in a band called Aleka's Attic.
River was also an activist who spent a lot of his time fighting for animal rights, veganism, and equal rights for both men and women.
River was also very good friends with Keanu Reeves. They both starred in I Love You To Death (1990) together, and again in My Own Private Idaho (1991).
Now, I wanted to discuss what a hottie River was at the time and of course his cute, but very different style. River dressed very grungy, and had a punk rock vibe to him. But, his style was timeless and I think we can all agree, fit him and the time period of the late 80s to 90s perfectly.
Fun fact, River Phoenix's quote "In simplicity there is truth" was the inspiration for the name of my blog. So, to end this birthday blog post to the incredible human that was River Phoenix, here is another one of my favourite quotes said by him:
